SIBCA: biodiversity, part of the solution for low-carbon development

|

During SIBCA – the Low-Carbon Real Estate Fair, a round table brought together several committed stakeholders to discuss the role of biodiversity in real estate.

Our director Clémence Bechu shared Bechu & Associés’ vision: moving from a city decorated with greenery to a regenerative city-ecosystem, which places living systems and usage at the heart of the project.

Three key ideas from her presentation:

  • Nature is not a cost: it’s an investment (summer comfort, health, attractiveness, education).

  • Design with biomimicry and climate data for real performance (less solar gain, better inertia, cool islands).

  • Renature everywhere: open soil, green roofs and vegetated verticals, from the ground up to façades, creating continuous ecological networks.

Examples mentioned:

  • Halles de Montrouge: open park, 90% open ground, geo-energy and ecological continuity from the district to the building.

  • Inspire – La Défense: timber structure + 5th façade planted ≈ 2,000 m²; biophilic atrium for user well-being.

  • Biomimetic approaches (“penguin” layout, “cactus” envelope) and work on territorial climate data.

Thanks to the organizers and other speakers for these stimulating discussions. Let’s keep building less, transforming better—and creating projects that repair as much as they shelter.
