The vertical campus ISM Dakar: a bioclimatic feat in full expansion

The vertical campus that revolutionizes education

In the urban landscape of Dakar, a major architectural project is taking shape: the vertical campus of the ISM Group's School of Management, affiliated with Galileo Global Education. This innovative achievement, designed by Bechu & Associates, embodies the perfect alliance between local tradition and cutting-edge technologies. Luca Bertacchi, our associate project director, currently on site, testifies to the remarkable progress of the work. The photos he shares reveal a bustling construction site, promising the imminent realization of our architectural vision.

Dakar innovates: bioclimatic vertical campus

This vertical campus stands out for its advanced bioclimatic approach, the result of a synergy between ancestral Senegalese know-how and our most advanced parametric design tools. The building thus stands as a model of sustainability and resilience, perfectly adapted to the climatic and cultural context of Dakar. The structure, conceived as a vertical village, offers a microclimate controlled in an almost natural way, ingeniously exploiting the winds and sunlight. This innovative design creates an environment conducive to learning and exchanges, while minimizing the building's ecological footprint. The aesthetics of the campus, with its patterns and colors, fits harmoniously into the Senegalese landscape while asserting a resolutely contemporary identity. The open spaces and staircase designs promote encounters and the circulation of ideas, essential in a university context. The project is progressing according to a precise schedule: the completion of the structural work is planned for February 2024 and delivery is imminent.

Eco-responsible campus revolutionizes education

This project benefits from the environmental expertise of Atelier Franck Boutté, ensuring the optimal integration of sustainable development principles. The ISM Dakar campus illustrates Bechu & Associates' commitment to responsible and avant-garde architecture, redefining the standards of higher education in West Africa.

Designed as a village, this campus project offers, through the materials and processes used, a quasi-naturally controlled microclimate thanks to the use of winds and sun.

Our project proposes an identity-driven campus that carries the image of ISM, sustainable and responsible, which will set a reference in Africa, and which draws inspiration from its codes in a contemporary way. The campus master plan is modeled after traditional villages in Senegal, and the extension of the canopy evokes the palaver tree, a traditional gathering place.Created in 1992, ISM Dakar is a driving force in private education for French-speaking Africa.

The group welcomes more than 3000 students across various growing entities (management, political science, law, computer science) which will be grouped together on the same campus at the start of the 2019 academic year. Our project proposes an identity-driven campus that carries the image of ISM, sustainable and responsible, which will set a reference in Africa, and which draws inspiration from its codes in a contemporary way.

Resolutely sustainable and evolving, the campus will generate a place in motion, punctuated by open spaces, promoting exchanges, sharing and the quality of life of its users.

To facilitate exchanges, the campus master plan is modeled after traditional villages in Senegal which are formed by the gathering of several round or square houses innervated by a main street from which alleys are born, and organized around a main square.

The campus entrance is marked in a contemporary way by an extension of the canopy that protects the interior street and escapes from it.

It evokes the palaver tree, a traditional gathering place in Africa, in the shade of which people express themselves about life in society, village problems, politics.

The project's courtyard is a true generator of freshness; it allows air renewal and diffuses natural light throughout the campus, while being protected from the sun. Both inside and outside, users will be able to exchange and share in the heart of a rich biodiversity created by landscaping work leading to a veritable profusion of vegetation.
